Weapons and ammunition

No special license is required to import hunting weapons into Namibia. A Firearms Import Permit will be issued rapidly and without bureaucracy at Windhoek Airport. Don't forget to bring your Firearm Ownership Certificate! Firearms must be packed in a gun case for the flight. The breech lock and ammunition must be packed separately in clothing luggage. Under no circumstances should either the breech lock or ammunition be transported in your hand luggage.
It is recommended that you bring at least 40-60 rounds of ammunition with you, since firearms need to be adapted to local conditions and it is possible that sighting-in may need to be re-done.

Facilities

Type of hunts

The Namibian hunting season officially opens from 1 February to 30 November. All hunts take place in the natural habitat of each species, which offers an equal chance for both hunter and game. Hunts are generally conducted on foot, although 4-wheel drive vehicles are used for accessing distant areas and selected hides. Our hunting guests enjoy the assistance and guidance of our experienced professional hunter and trackers.

Bow hunting

Namibia has finally "broken the shackles" and opened it's doors to all old and aspiring trophy bow hunters around the world. Traditional bow hunters can pit their skills in pursuit of the perfect shot. As bow hunting guides in Namibia, Kansimba will strive to uphold all the traditions and ethics. Hunting is conducted either by stalking or from adequate blinds and only longbows, re-curve or compound bows (55 lbs - 85 lbs) are permitted. Recommended arrow head weights are between 350 grams and 450 grams. Points such as, Judo Blunt or Bird Points may be used for shooting rodents and huntable game birds. So join us at Kansimba Game Lodge for an unforgettable hunt and in so doing, play an important role in pioneering this truly traditional sport in Namibia.

Climate/Clothing

The winter is generally mild and summer clothing is generally suitable. It can, however, become very cold, especially at night, and warm clothing is recommended. Summers are very hot, except at the coast, where warm clothing may be needed even during December and January.

Clients need not bring a lot of clothing. We do daily laundry at no additional charge. Bring along a good pair of binoculars, long khaki colored or green trousers and long sleeved shirts, a good pair of sunglasses, a wide brimmed hat, lots of sunscreen lotion. If you hunt with us during our winter month, bring along a padded windbreaker, mittens and a shawl. Our winter mornings during June, July and August can get very cold, especially in an open vehicle. In addition, bring comfortable well broken-in boots.

Trophy Preparation

Special attention and emphasis is placed on the professional preparation of trophies for our hunters (prior to being sent to a taxidermist). On request we can also arrange the taxidermy of trophies, as well as packaging, export permits and transport, all at very favourable rates.
